The Portux920T Mini-PC is now also available with an integrated analog or ISDN modem. Both modem cards enable a straight-forward connection via telephone to the Internet or directly to another computer. Both modems use a serial interface to connect with the operating system (Linux or FreeBSD) and can be addressed using simple AT commands. If you need TCP/IP, either analog or ISDN, you can use the PPP demon for both configurations. By configuring the PPP driver, you can easily dial into the Internet just as on a traditional PC.

Terminals from taskit: Simply show your stuff
You don't always need an industrial-strength computer. Often the main task at hand is just the display of data, which makes complex input and output units superfluous. That's where terminals from taskit come into play: the LCD-Terminal enables output to an LCD screen and input (optionally) via 6 keys or a matrix keyboard. The MoTerm edition comes built into a robust housing with a 21-key foil keyboard.
The LCD-Display measures 128x64 pixels and can display 8x21 characters in text mode. The 8051-compatible processor core cannot be extensively programmed, but is adequate for simple data logging. Each model has a serial interface by which the terminal can be controlled with standard ANSI-sequenzes and 300-115200 Baud; the low Baud-rate capability enables usage with microcomputers as well.
These terminals serve as valuable helpers wherever status messages from servers and industrial computers need to be monitored, simple or no input is necessary, and the full functionality of an industrial computer is unnecessary.

Intel 386EX: Long-term availability ensured

Good news for the embedded industry: the widespread 386EX microcontroller used in many taskit products will remain available for the long-term. The American company Innovasic Semiconductor announced that, due to high demand, it will supply an IC that is 100% compatible to Intel's original product. Dimensions, quality and functionality will all be identical to the original. It will be available in a 132-pin PQFP as well as a 144-pin TQFP and fulfill the RoHS guidelines. The product will come on the market in the 4th quarter of 2008.
Innovasic Semiconductor has long specialized in 100% compatible replacements for microcontrollers and peripheral ICs which are being discontinued by the original manufacturer but remain sought-after. They produce, for example, a replacement IC for the Intel 186 microcontroller, which remains in demand despite having been discontinued by Intel. Innovasic has earned a good reputation in this market segment.

Small microcontroller unit with 48 MHz ARM7TDMI processor core
The main part of the SAMDIP-7X is the AT91SAM7X microcontroller made by Atmel, which is based on the ARM7TDMI processor core. It's clock rate can be set up to 50 MHz, when using USB it's set to 48 MHz. The power consumption is kept at a low level: according to the manufacturer, the ARM7TDMI is leader in MIPS/Watt (performance/consumption ratio). The placement of Flash (256 KB) and SRAM (64 KB) memory on chip helps saving power as well and speeds up execution. An integrated DMA controller saves processor resources during communication with peripherals.
There is a wide range of possibilities for peripheral connection and the most common ones are included: one Ethernet, one USB and three serial interfaces. Their placement on the DIP-module (25.4 x 81.3 mm) submits various application possibilities as well as the integration into an existing system. Many measurement, control and regulating procedures are suited for that purpose; it's low consumption makes the SAMDIP-7X interesting for battery powered applications.
The Starter kit SAMDIP-7X provides a comfortable environment for application development. A test board contains Ethernet, USB and RS-232 ports, which allow communication with peripherals and a large pin grid for building own circuits. These can be tested by using LEDs and switches. A debug version of the SAMDIP-7X contains a JTAG interface.
